Ellen Reid’s Favorite Paths Through the Regent’s Park SOUNDWALK
Queen Mary's Garden & St. John's Lodge Garden
Enter Regent’s Park from the south at the York Gate and walk north into Queen Mary's Garden via the Jubilee Gates. Hear Shabaka Hutchings' multi-layered shakuhachi composition as you enter the garden. Explore Queen Mary's Garden. Make sure to climb the hill over the waterfall by The Japanese Garden Island to hear the James McVinnie Ensemble perform “Blue Sky | Mirrored Glass", a brand new work created especially for the Regent's Park SOUNDWALK.
Exit Queen Mary's Garden at Chester Rd. Make a left on Inner Circle Drive, find the gate to St. John's Lodge Garden to your right, and explore one of Regent’s Park’s most beautiful locales.
Primrose Hill
Enter Primrose Hill from Elsworthy Terrace. Walk to the summit of Primrose Hill and survey the city below to a sweeping work for winds and synthesizer collaboratively composed and performed by Shabaka Hutchings and Ellen Reid. Continue down the south side of Primrose Hill to enter Regent’s Park at Prince Albert Road and Ormonde Terrace.
Walk through the park with the zoo directly on your left, towards the Ready Money Drinking Fountain. At the fountain you will hear the Kronos Quartet perform “West Coast Sky Forever”, a work created for SOUNDWALK. Make a left towards Prince Albert Road to exit the park via The Broad Walk.
The Broad Walk
Enter Regent’s Park at St. Mark's Bridge. Walk down The Broad Walk towards the Ready Money Drinking Fountain. At the fountain you will hear the Kronos Quartet perform “West Coast Sky Forever". Veer off the path to the Broad Walk Cafe to hear a work for synthesizer and winds collaboratively composed and performed by Shabaka Hutchings and Ellen Reid.
Return to the Broad Walk, and veer off once again at the pavilion just north of the cafe to hear ”lumee's dream (Nadia Sirota viola study)”, arranged and performed by Nadia Sirota. Continue down The Broad Walk across Chester Road. Once you've crossed Chester Road, make sure to explore the gardens on either side of the path.
